Worth the Wait -- Classroom Presentations
A nationally recognized teen pregnancy prevention curriculum which
targets 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Topics addressed include
building healthy relationships, parenting can wait and making good
decisions. Students learn through an interactive presentation style
over three days a year for three years. A formal evaluation is also
being conducted as a means to track student responses to an
anonymous survey given each year. Since starting in October 1998
Worth the Wait has been in 36 schools throughout the seven county
region that M&BPN serves.
A modified presentation can be given to:
- high risk
- male only groups
- high school students
Teen Summit: (contingent upon funding)
Part of the Worth the Wait Project, the Teen Summit is an educational field trip for 8th grade students in the seven county region the project serves. Activities include a maze, speakers on various educational areas designed to help students make healthier and better informed decisions.
Parents Supporting Teens:
PST is a communication series that is designed to help parents. By speaking with our facilitators and receiving information on a variety of topics, parents are empowered to begin a dialogue with their teens. Topics of sessions include: bullying, self esteem, puberty and sexuality, and peer pressure. These programs may be held at schools, churches, businesses and community organizations.
Life Skills:
A series of educational modules designed to assist teens with informed decision-making regarding critical life choices and self-sufficiency. Topics include: Food Rules, Health Matters, Learning Changes, Money Talks, Legal Jams, Job World, Apartment Hunt, Exploring Healthy Relationships, Dating for Real, and Date Rape.
Referrals:
When the educators are out in the field they have resources available to provide interested youth information on local resources that can assist them in areas they have indicated.
